INTRODUCTION OF FACULTY OF VETERINARY MEDICINE
Establishment History
The Department of Veterinary Medicine was first established in 1975, under the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Aquaculture, at Can Tho University. However, in 1977, the Faculty was divided into two faculties: the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, and the Faculty of Aquaculture.
In 1996, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine merged with the Faculty of Agriculture, Aquaculture, and Food Processing to form the Faculty of Agriculture, which included the Department of Veterinary Medicine.
Since October 2022, the Department of Veterinary Medicine became the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FVM), under the College of Agriculture, Can Tho University. Our Faculty locates in Campus II, 3/2 street, Can Tho University, Can Tho City.
The FVM was officially formed with a similar vision and mission to the College of Agriculture, aiming at training high-quality human resources in Veterinary Medicine, conducting scientific research, and transferring technology to serve regional and national socio-economic development.
The total number of staff is 30 consisting of 7 Associate Professors (23.33%), 12 Doctors (40%), 10 Masters (33.33%) with two members studying for Ph.D., and one Bachelor (3.33%). Furthermore, other lecturers belonging to other departments in CTU have been involved responsibility in teaching many subjects in Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine. Currently, FVM has two own standard laboratories including Basic Veterinary Lab. 1-2-3, Specified Veterinary Lab. 1-2-3-4-5, five modern laboratories (Veterinary Pharmacology Lab, Veterinary Pathology Lab, Veterinary Epidemiology Lab, Infectious Disease Lab, Veterinary Food Hygiene) and one Laboratory of Animal Clinic

The department has been collaborating with national and international organizations such as Sweden, Japan, the United States, the Institute of Veterinary Medicine, Vaccine Institutes, regional veterinary centers, Promotion Centers for Agriculture and Rural Development, Vemedim Company, HanVet Company, Navetco Company, CP Company, Cargill, Japfa, Uni-President, Proconco, Bio, Greenfeed.
Career opportunities after graduation.
After graduation, students have opportunities to work in various organizations and institutions such as the Department of Animal Health Management, Veterinary Institutes, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Promotion Centers for Agriculture and Rural Development, Veterinary Sub-Departments, Research Institutes, Universities and Colleges, Vocational High Schools, Animal Medicine and Vaccine Manufacturing and Trading Companies, Animal Feed Services, Animal Breeding Companies, and all economic sectors involved in animal production. In addition, there are also opportunities to participate in domestic and international livestock and veterinary projects.
Postgraduate study opportunities.
After graduating from university, students have the opportunity to insight into their specialized knowledge by enrolling in postgraduate studies such as Master/Ph.D. study or participating in short-term training courses to broaden their knowledge. Moreover, students can also pursue an additional degree in another field at Can Tho University to augment their job prospects and fulfill their academic aspirations
