Faculty of Animal Sciences, College of Agriculture, Can Tho University was established in March 1996.
The Faculty has 19 staff members, comprising 12 lecturers (2 Professors, 6 Associate Professors, 4 PhD); and 8 supporting staff members (1 PhD, 4 MSc, 1 veterinarian, 1 engineers, and 1 intermediate staff).
With the support of JICA (Japan), the Faculty’s facilities have been invested in 7 basic and specialized animal husbandry laboratories. In recent years, the Faculty’s human resources and equipment have undergone further upgrades, thanks to the support of the World Bank’s project, the project of the Ministry of Education and Training, research programs of MEKARN (Sweden), JIRCAS (Japan), and CIM-WUS’s program of equipment support for returning overseas students (Germany).
It can be stated that the Faculty of Animal Sciences at Can Tho University has made substantial investments in human resources and facilities to meet the demands of training, scientific research, and technology transfer. The Faculty stands out as one of Can Tho University's leading units in training students at all levels, particularly international graduate students (2010-2012).
With remarkable achievements, the Faculty of Animal Sciences received the Certificate of Merit by the Ministry of Education and Training for its outstanding scientific research accomplishments in the period 2006-2010. Moreover, the Ministry honored the Faculty by selecting it as the unit for doctoral training in animal husbandry within the framework of Project 911.
Throughout the years, the Faculty has significantly contributed to the transfer of science and technology to the Mekong Delta region, thereby fostering the development of the field in the area.
